An NHS bursary is an annual payment, paid termly, awarded to assist with day to day living costs while you’re studying.

It also includes the cost of your tuition fees for the course you attend.

We’ll pay the standard course tuition fee for Medical and Dental students directly to their university.

An NHS Bursary is not subject to income tax deductions or National Insurance contributions and is not considered a salary or wage.

The means tested bursary is calculated using your:

  • own income
  • parent’s income
  • spouse, civil partner, or partner’s income
