Most students must pay for essential items such as food, bills, clothes and leisure or entertainment. These are known as composite living costs (CLC).

You do not need to declare these on your Exceptional Support Fund (ESF) application.

When we assess your claim, we apply fixed amounts for these costs.

The amounts we use depend on your living arrangements and whether you attend a university in London.

We’ll use London rates if you attend a university in London.

The London universities are:

  • Bucks New University
  • City University (St. Barts)
  • St. Barts and the London School of Medicine (this is often referred to as Queen Mary's)
  • Brunel University
  • East London University
  • Eastman Dental College
  • Greenwich University
  • Guys and St. Thomas
  • Imperial College London
  • Kings College London
  • Kingston University & St. Georges Hospital
  • London University College
  • London Metropolitan University
  • London South Bank University
  • Middlesex University
  • St George's - University of London
  • University College London
  • University of East London
  • University of  West London

The current amounts we use are available in the ESF application guide on our website.
