A UK EHIC and UK GHIC are free of charge.

Apply for a UK EHIC or a UK GHIC for free on the NHS website.

Several unofficial websites may charge you for a UK EHIC or UK GHIC application, these sites are not affiliated to NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) and operate without approval from the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC).

The law requires all unofficial sites offering UK EHIC or UK GHIC services to carry a clear disclaimer that they are not an NHSBSA site or affiliated to NHSBSA.

If you used an unofficial website to apply for your UK EHIC or GHIC, we would appreciate if you can complete a quick online survey to help us gather information.

We'll use the information to improve our processes, monitor the activities of unofficial websites, and co-operate with any enforcement action against them.

If you have been misled

If you believe you have been misled by an advertisement for an unofficial UK EHIC or UK GHIC website, report this to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA).

NHSBSA and ASA cannot help you get a refund of any fees you have paid.

If you believe the terms and conditions of the unofficial website are unclear, you can contact Citizens Advice consumer advice for help.

Your local Trading Standards office may be able to help if there has been a clear breach of the terms and conditions of the unofficial website.
