If the patient has previously had a course of orthodontic treatment, it is possible for them to have a further course providing they meet the IOTN (Index of Orthodontic Treatment Needed) criteria.

If the patient meets the IOTN criteria, then you'll need to contact your Commissioner (Sustainability Transformation Partnership / Local Health Board) to confirm that they're willing to fund a second course of orthodontic treatment for the patient.

You don't need to notify NHS Dental Services if your Commissioner agrees to fund a further course of orthodontic treatment, we would process the claim as normal as long as the previous CoT was closed.
