There are different types of splints so it would be dependent on which type of splint it was as to what you can claim:
  • If a piece of wire or foil is cemented to the teeth to keep them in place, this would be considered as a Band 2 treatment item.

  • If an acrylic appliance has to be made, this would be considered as a Band 3 treatment item.

As with any Band 2 or Band 3 claim, an examination and an assessment of the patient's oral health, and completion of the planned treatment (that the patient is willing to undergo) is a requirement.

Splints are used to hold mobile (loose) teeth together if the patient has suffered trauma and are not covered under the 12 month guarantee.
