Working after retirement
If you want to claim your pension and continue working you can either retire and return or claim partial retirement.
Retire and return
You can perform NHS work after a 24 hour break in your contract. This is also known as 24 hour retirement.
To arrange a break in your contract, contact your:
- provider if you’re a performer
- Commissioner if you’re a provider
From 1 April 2023 if you take retirement from 1995 Scheme you can re-join the 2015 scheme.
You must notify NHS Dental Services that you wish to rejoin the 2015 scheme in writing.
Information on retirement and returning to work can be provided by NHS Pensions.
Partial retirement
Partial retirement allows you to take some or all your pension benefits without taking a break in your contract.
There are additional criteria to apply for partial retirement.
