The 'statement reference' or 'pay period' on your monthly pay statement refers to the month and year in which it is in relation to.
The month is determined by financial year rather than calendar year as shown below.

The year is determined by the financial year in which it falls e.g '1819' would relate to the financial year beginning 1 April 2018 and ending 31 March 2019.
