You may be reimbursed the total cost of temporary accommodation on placement, subject to a maximum amount.

The rates of accommodation costs you can claim depends on when your placement started.

If your placement started on or after 1 September 2023, you can claim a maximum of either:

  • £82.50 per night for commercial accommodation, which is hotels, B and B's, lettings agents or estate agents
  • £37.50 per night for non-commercial accommodation, which is hospital accommodation, private renting from an individual landlord or university halls

You're also able to claim towards the cost of one return journey each week between your normal term time address and your temporary accommodation whilst you are on placement. You can only be reimbursed the excess daily cost when compared to your normal daily travel to and from university.

Travel costs between your temporary accommodation and your placement site may be claimed as well. You can only be reimbursed the excess daily cost of these journeys when compared to your normal daily travel to and from university.

Any booking or admin fee is included in the maximum amount allowed for your accommodation. It will not be refunded separately.

Your university must authorise on all placement claims.

Read our website for information about the accommodation rates.
