If you have not received your bursary payment, you must take the following steps:

  • If it is your first Bursary payment on the NHS Bursary system, check you have added your bank details to your bursary account. When your application was approved you were sent an email asking you to input your bank details. Check your junk mail folder if you cannot find this email. Once you have added your details to your account, we can then process your payment.
  • Check with your Bank or Building Society. If you have looked for your bursary payment using an ATM, your next step should be to contact the bank as the bursary payment does not always show immediately at the ATM even though it has been paid.
  • Check the 'Payment Schedule' page on your account. If there is no date next to the payment in question, it has not yet been released. However, this advice cannot be followed for an expected 'Underpayment' amount as the date shown will not be accurate. You should allow 10 working days from the date the 'Underpayment' first appeared in your Payment Schedule to receive this money.
  • Check that your bank account details are correct. You can view part of the bank account details you have supplied on the student details page of your account once your application has been approved. If they are incorrect you should amend them using the 'Update Bank Details' section.

If your account details were incorrect, please take the following action:

If the details were for an old account or only the account number was incorrect

You should contact your bank, advising them of the account details used for the payment and the amount, to ask what will happen to the money.

If the payment is being returned to us, we will release this money to you again once we receive and process it, assuming you have already updated your bank details. This process can take several weeks depending on how long it takes for the payment to be returned.

If your bank informs you that the payment cannot be returned, due the incorrect account number you entered belonging to someone else, you should contact us. We cannot advise whether this money can be retrieved in order for us to release it again however we may be able to investigate further.

If the sort code was incorrect

The payment will be returned to us and we will release this money to you again once we receive and process it, assuming you have already updated your bank details. This process can take several weeks depending on how long it takes for the payment to be returned.
