Members should avoid submitting their own applications where possible however there could be circumstances where this is unavoidable.

Where an AW8 has to be submitted by a Practice Manager claiming their own benefits, the paper form must be signed and authorised at Part 6 (certification) either by a senior partner or the GP. The authorised signatory is also responsible for the verification of original certificates or certified copies at Part 4.

Under these circumstances, the Practice Manager should process the AW8 themselves using Pensions Online (POL) whilst the authorised signatory needs to send an accompanying email to to confirm verification. The paper copy of the AW8 should be kept by the practice for auditing purposes.
