When calculating the Maintenance Grant award for a postgraduate course student, we take into account your spouse / partner / civil partner's gross residual income, if applicable.
To calculate their gross residual income, we would use their gross taxable income and minus any of the following allowable deductions:
- Private pension contributions
- Employee pension contributions
- Additional voluntary pension contributions
- Any other expenses connected with employment (if allowable for tax purposes)
We don't make any deductions for tax or National Insurance (NI) when calculating the gross residual income.
