A pooled list code is issued to a GP practice to hold the practice's patient list, against one central code.

This code is not a prescribing code and should never appear on prescriptions.

The pooled list code should not be used to hold patients in abeyance. This is when a GP leaves and the patients are waiting to be assigned to a new GP.

Abeyance codes are issued by the Organisational Data Service (ODS), part of NHS Digital.

If you need an abeyance code, you must contact ODS.

Abeyance codes are not held on our systems. They must not appear on prescriptions as a prescribing code.

To request a pooled list code

The Sub ICB Location (SICBL) must complete the Pooled list code for a GP Practice proforma on our website to request a pooled list code.

The completed form must be returned to prescriptioninformation@nhsbsa.nhs.uk.

Further information on pooled list codes can be found on our website.
