If you're a dispensing contractor, you send your prescription forms to us for reimbursement and remuneration. The forms should be sorted into exempt and paid groups.

This will tell us whether the patient paid a charge for their items or not.

If we identify that an item has been submitted in the wrong group or the patient has completed the declaration incorrectly, we'll 'switch' the prescription into the correct group.

You cannot make changes, alterations or adjustments to prescription endorsements or declarations once submitted and processed. It’s incumbent you submit true and accurate claims.

Your Schedule of Payments tells you the reasons why prescriptions have been switched.

Exempt to Chargeable

Switched due to part 2 containing a charge rate

This means that the prescription has been sorted into the wrong part of the batch; a chargeable prescription has been put in the exempt section.

Switched due to part 3 being unsigned

This means that the patient did not sign the back of the prescription.

All exempt patients must sign and tick the back of the prescription. The only exception to this is when a patient is age exempt (under 16 or over 60) and their age or date of birth has been printed by computer directly from their patient record on to the prescription.

Chargeable to Exempt

Declaration shows claim for exemption

This means that the prescription was sorted into the wrong part of the batch: an exempt prescription has been put in the chargeable section.

EPS prescriptions

Claims through EPS2 will be processed according to the exemption status within the electronic claim message.

EPS2 prescriptions cannot be switched.

If a pharmacy has not selected an exemption on an EPS claim message, this will default to paid.

Error with switched prescriptions

If you think there’s an issue with your monthly payment relating to switching due to an error by us, you can ask us to recheck a month or specific months’ prescriptions.

You must submit a recheck request to us by completing the recheck request form on our website.

You can contact our helpdesk if you have any queries on prescription switching.
