The SLS is listed within Part XVIIIB of the Drug Tariff.

Part XVIIIB reproduces Schedule 2 of the NHS (General Medical Services Contracts) (Prescription of Drugs etc) Regulations 2004. This lists drugs, medicines and other substances that may be ordered only in certain circumstances.

SLS restrictions also apply to vacuum pumps and constrictor rings listed in Part IXA of the Drug Tariff.

The drugs and devices listed are only for patients with the stated medical conditions, not for any other purpose. NHS Prescription Services cannot advise which conditions an SLS product can be prescribed for.

Endorsement

The Prescriber must endorse the prescription with ‘SLS’.

This confirms the product has been prescribed in accordance with the Regulations.

A dispenser cannot add the SLS endorsement to a prescription, only the prescriber can do this.

For EPS2 prescriptions, the prescriber must use the SLS endorsement option on their prescribing system.
