NHS Bursary leave payments are available for a maximum period of 52 weeks.

If you are experiencing exceptional, extenuating circumstances such as post natal depression, other pregnancy related illness / serious illness or loss of your baby further weeks may be considered. However, these are subject to the medical evidence and any other relevant evidence provided.

We would also require a new Maternity Withdrawal Form (BUR101W MAT) form from the University to confirm the reasons behind the extension.

This does not mean the award will be extended and extension will not be granted for an indefinite period in any circumstances. Each case will be considered according to the individual circumstances presented to NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) Student Services.
