We use the word ‘partner’ for a person you live with as part of a couple.

A partner can be the same or opposite sex and you can be married, have a civil partnership or neither.

If you and your partner live together as a couple, you must include both your details on your HC1 application.

You do not need to include your partner if they:

  • live in full-time residential care
  • are in prison

If you and your partner have separated but live in the same house, include their details in Part 9 of your HC1 application.
