You can transfer from another pension scheme registered with HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) to the NHS Pension Scheme. This includes a Recognised Overseas Pension Scheme (ROPS).
The NHS Pension Scheme can accept a transfer which contains protected rights benefits.
Separate Pension Scheme
If you’ve paid pension contributions alongside your NHS pension, a transfer may be accepted outside of the time limit.
An application must be made at the first opportunity after leaving the other scheme.
Separate NHS Schemes
If you’re working full time in England and part-time in Scotland, you cannot transfer all of your benefits into either scheme. You cannot have scheme membership that's more than whole-time hours. Your benefits must remain in 2 separate NHS schemes.
We cannot accept any transfer payment for pension credit following a divorce or dissolution of a civil partnership.
The transfers team can only confirm if a transfer in will be accepted, once the application pack has been received.
For more information about the criteria for a transfer in to be accepted, visit the NHS Pensions website.
