Different payments are pensionable depending on if you’re an Officer or Practitioner member.

Officer’s pensionable payments include:

  • annual leave
  • paid sick leave
  • overtime for part-time members up to the full-time equivalent pay
  • approved maternity, paternity or adoption leave
  • carer’s leave
  • London weighting payments
  • on call availability payments where there’s a specific rota commitment for both whole-time and part-time members
  • on call payments for part-time members up to the whole-time standard week if paid at your basic hourly rate
  • temporary pay increases
  • National Clinical Excellence Awards (CEAs)
  • local CEAs confirmed before 1 April 2018
  • payroll giving payments
  • Waiting List Initiative (WLI) payments for part-time hospital doctors up to the whole-time standard week if paid for hours worked
  • domiciliary fees

Payments that are not pensionable include:

  • one-off payments 
  • payment for hours above the standard whole-time hours
  • discretionary or bonus payments for completion of a job or related to the performance of the employee 
  • Temporary Injury Allowance (TIA) or Injury Allowance 
  • payments in lieu of notice or untaken annual leave 
  • payments made for work done as a Non-Executive Director or Non-Executive Board member
  • any salary used as part of a salary sacrifice
  • expenses reimbursement such as travel expenses 
  • overtime work at a different rate of pay for part-time members
  • overtime work for part-time members who have taken partial retirement in the previous 12 months
  • strike days
  • NHS Student Bursary payments
