If original documents are requested, we cannot accept copies unless it's been certified by a third-party in a professional capacity.

Professionals who can certify copies include:

  • solicitors or lawyers
  • notary publics 
  • chartered accountants or certified public accountants (CPA)
  • doctors or medical practitioners
  • police officers or other government officials
  • bank managers or officials of regulated financial institutions

To certify the copy, the third-party must see the original document. 

On the certified copy, they must:

  • write 'Certified to be a true copy of the original seen by me'
  • sign and date it
  • print their name under the signature
  • add their occupation, address and telephone number

We cannot accept copies if the person certifying the document is either:

  • related to you
  • in a relationship with you
  • living at the same address
