Disallowed days refers to any period in time when a member of the scheme is absent without permission or prior arrangement with their employer and have subsequently received no pay for that period. Examples of disallowed days would be periods of unpaid sickness or strike days.
The number of days lost through such absence will be determined and recorded by the NHS employer as disallowed days. Weekends and rest days may be included if payment would normally have been made for those days.
As it is not possible to pay pension contributions on unpaid periods of employment, any days which are recorded as disallowed days will not be counted towards pensionable membership.
