You are classed as part-time if you work less than the whole time standard hours for your job.

All contributing part-time membership counts at full calendar length towards qualifying membership. It’s converted to it’s whole time equivalent for reckonable membership purposes.

Your whole time equivalent reckonable membership is calculated as:

Number of hours actually worked ÷ standard whole time weekly hours × 7 = the number of whole time equivalent days membership.

If you have a sessional contract, it can be calculated as:

Number of sessions actually worked ÷ standard whole time weekly sessions for the job × 7 = the whole time equivalent days membership.

Bank staff employment

The first day of employment on your pension record will be the first day you do paid work, not the date you joined the bank.

If you remain on the bank of the employer and do not work for a period of up to 3 months, the employment on your pension record will remain open.

If no work is carried out during this 3-month period, the employment will be closed from the last day any work was carried out.

Working part-time in one or more jobs

If you work part-time in one or more jobs, you can be pensionable up to a maximum of whole time employment overall.

Any membership in excess of whole time employment is non-pensionable and does not count towards qualifying or reckonable membership.
