SSP is an extra £1,000 per academic year on top of the Training Grant for eligible students studying:

  • mental health nursing
  • learning disability nursing
  • radiography - diagnostic and therapeutic
  • prosthetics and orthotics
  • orthoptics and podiatry

You may get SSP if you're on a combined course which includes one of these subjects.

You must have started year one of your course on or after 1 September 2020 to qualify for SSP.

If you're attending your course on a part-time basis, you'll receive the SSP pro rata of the full-time amount, depending on your attendance pattern.

If you're eligible for SSP, it will be added to your account when we assess your Training Grant application.
