When a new pharmacy is set up or there’s a change of ownership, the pharmacy needs to be set up as EPS enabled on NHS Choices website. This enables the pharmacy to be chosen by patients as their nominated pharmacy for EPS prescriptions.

An EPS validation message or a live EPS claim needs to be submitted as soon as possible, on or after the start or change date.

EPS validation messages are provided by the system supplier however, some system suppliers may submit these on behalf of the contractor.

NHS Choices is updated once a week on a Monday.

NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) must receive the EPS validation message or EPS claim by close of business on the previous Tuesday for the EPS enabled flag to be set then. Any message received after this will not show until the following Monday on NHS Choices.
