Peer Assessment Rating (PAR) is used to measure orthodontic treatment outcomes.

A high PAR score relates to a high degree of dental irregularity or malocclusion. A low PAR score relates to a high degree of alignment and favourable occlusion.

NHS orthodontic contracts starting before April 2019 must submit their PAR scores offline, they must submit:

  • 100% of cases, if the performer has fewer than 20 cases per year
  • 20 cases plus 10% of the remaining cases, if the performer has more than 20 cases per year

Contracts starting before April 2019 should record their PAR scores on the online FP170 form by selecting the 'Orthodontic Conclusion' tab.

NHS orthodontic contracts starting in April 2019 or later can submit their PAR scores on Compass, they must also submit their Managed Clinical Network (MCN) submissions:

Submitting your PAR scores

Providers with contracts starting after April 2019 must submit their PAR scores on Compass twice a year within the submission window:

  • 10 claims between 1 April and the end of September
  • 10 claims between 1 October and the end of March

Select ‘Activity’ from the Compass home page, and then ‘Ortho PAR Score Sample Request’.

Compass will list the claims you must PAR score.

Full guidance on submitting PAR scores is available in the ‘Compass online form guidance’ section of our website.

If you do not have 10 claims to PAR score within the submission window you will receive an error message, contact NHS Dental Services to discuss.

Managed Clinical Network (MCN)

Providers must submit the number of MCN meetings they have attended each year. This can be submitted on Compass at any time between October 1st and March 31st.

Read MCN submission guidance in the ‘Compass online form guidance’ section of our website.
