You'll always be asked if you have unspent convictions or cautions and depending on the role. Employers may also ask if you have any previous convictions or cautions which are not protected.
This information is needed so employers are aware of any information that may come up in your pre-employment checks. Employers use this information to make sure rehabilitated ex-offenders receive a fair opportunity when applying for jobs. This process also reduces the risk of unsuitable people working in sensitive posts.
