Retrospective membership is when:

  • a payroll error resulted in an employer failing to enrol an eligible employee into the NHS Pension Scheme at the time of the employment
  • a part-time non-medical employee was eligible to join the NHS Pension Scheme, but the employer did not tell them at the time.

To make a retrospective membership claim, complete an SM Retro 1 form.

This must be sent to the employer you worked for at the time.

If you cannot find the employer address, send the form to us so we can find the employer for you.

Read more information on retrospective membership on our website.

NHS Dentist’s

NHS Dentist’s who worked in prisons, immigration removal centres and secure children’s homes may have been told incorrectly that they cannot join the NHS Pension Scheme.

To claim retrospective membership, complete the General Dental Practitioners Retrospective membership application form.
