The NHSPCS is a tiered pharmacy contraception service designed to:
- offer people greater choice where they can access contraception services from
- create extra capacity in primary care and sexual health clinics, or equivalent, to support meeting the demand for more complex assessments

Claiming
The claim for activity for each month must be made using the manage your service (MYS) portal no later than the fifth of the following month.
Payment will be made in the subsequent payment cycle.
Later submissions will be accepted, but only if made within 3 months of the date which the claim should have been submitted. Later claims will not be paid, unless the submission was delayed by IT issues outside of your control.
These claims can be accepted within 12 months of when the claim should have been submitted, providing you send evidence of the IT issue to the NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA).
Payments
A total of £900 will be paid in instalments:
- £400 paid 30 days after signing up to deliver the service on MYS
- £250 paid after claiming the first 5 consultations
- £250 paid after claiming a further 5 consultations, up to a total of 10 consultations
You'll also receive a fee of £25 per consultation.
The medicines that may be supplied as part of this service are listed in the Patient Group Direction (PGD). Only those medicines listed will be eligible for payment.
The cost of those medicines, if supplied as part of the service, will be reimbursed using the basic price in the Drug Tariff Part II Clause 8 - Basic Price.
The allowance for containers and consumables will not apply to products supplied as part of this advanced service.
No other elements of the Drug Tariff in relation to reimbursement of medicines apply to this service.
An allowance at the applicable VAT rate will also be paid.
Opting out of NHSPCS
If you want to stop providing NHSPCS, you must de-register on MYS and provide 30 days’ notice. You must still provide NHSPCS within the 30 days and will be paid as usual.
You will not be able to re-register for 4 months from the final day of your 30 day notice period. After this you can re-register on MYS.
