What a member and pensioner can do

View personal details

Go to the ‘Your Details’ section and select ‘Personal details’.

This will show your:

  • membership number which is also known as your SD number
  • name held on the pension record
  • National Insurance number held on the pension record
  • date of birth held on the pension record and if it's been verified
  • nomination status
  • status in the NHS Pension Scheme

If your name, date of birth or National Insurance number are incorrect, you must contact your employer if you're an active member of the Scheme.

Non-active members must send evidence of the correct details to us.

Update contact details

Go to the ‘Your Details’ section and select ‘Contact Details’.

Select ‘Edit’ to update your contact details.

You must update any changes with your current NHS employer if you're an active member of the Scheme.

Make a nomination

  1. Select the drop-down arrow next to 'More NHS Information Pages'.
  2. Select ‘Nominations’.
  3. Read the declaration and select ‘Accept’.
  4. Select ‘Nominate Person’ or ‘Nominate Organisation’.
  5. Enter your nominee or organisation details.
  6. Select ‘Death Benefit Election’ or ‘Partner Nomination’.
  7. Enter the percentage share.
  8. Enter the address for the nominee or select the 'Use your address' option if they live at the same address.
  9. Select 'Save and Continue'.
  10. Check the nomination and select 'Save and Continue' if correct or 'Undo changes' if a mistake has been made.

Your nomination will be updated on your pension record within 24 hours.

We'll contact you directly if it's rejected including the reason why and the next actions to take.

Updating or removing a nomination

Existing nominations can be updated or removed in the ‘Nominations’ section.

Select the pencil icon to update a nominee’s details.

Select the bin icon to delete the nomination.

Update account login and security details

Select ‘My Account’ from the drop-down arrow on the navigation bar.

You can update your login details and check other security options.

Updating your email address or telephone number in this section does not update the contact details in the ‘Your details’ section.

You can set up or change security questions used when recovering your account.

Change password

Go to the ‘Password & Sign-in Method' section.

This will show the last time your password was changed.

Select ‘Change’ next to the password.

You must re-enter your current password before being asked to create a new password.

Change Two-factor authentication (2FA) method

Go to the ‘Password & Sign-in Method' section.

Select the ‘Change’ button next to the 2FA details.

Select the 2FA method you want to use.

Follow the on-screen instructions and enter the code received.

Create recovery codes

Recovery codes are used when you do not have access to the 2FA device linked to your account.

You can generate 8 codes.

View employment history

Select ‘Service employment’ from the drop-down to view a history of your pensionable membership.

This will show the dates of membership and the name of the employer.

There will be a second employment showing for when you moved into the 2015 Scheme.

View salary history

Select ‘Salary History’ from the drop-down.

This will show the salary recorded for each year.

View part-time hours history

If you’ve worked part-time, you can view the total hours worked for each financial year.

Select ‘Your Details’ and ‘Part Time Hours Details’.

No hours will be listed if you've never worked part-time.

Change email address

Go to the ‘Account Details/Recovery’ section and select ‘Change’ next to the email address showing.

You must re-enter your password before you can enter the new email address.

You’ll be sent a verification email with a link to verify the new email address.

Check your junk or spam folders if you do not receive the email. If the email has not been received, select ‘Resend’ from the notification banner.

Change telephone number

You can change the telephone number used to send the SMS message when logging in.

Select ‘Change’ next to the telephone number showing.

You must re-enter your password before you can enter the new telephone number.

Add security questions

Select ‘Change’ next to the security question.

You must re-enter your password.

Select a security question from the drop-down list.

Enter your answer and select ‘Continue’ to save.

View sign in location history

This shows:

  • the time & date of login
  • browser and operating system used
  • IP address

If you do not recognise any of the details, change your password.

What a pensioner only can do

View your payslip or P60

  1. Select the drop-down arrow next to 'Help and information'.
  2. Select 'P60’s' or 'Payslip'.
  3. Select the year and month on the drop-down menu.
  4. Select ‘Download’ payslip or P60.

Your payslip or P60 will be added to your downloads folder.

Change bank details

You can update the UK bank account your pension is paid into.

  1. Select ‘Bank Details’.
  2. Select ‘Change your bank details’.
  3. Enter your sort code, account number and building society number if required.
  4. Select ‘Effective date’.
  5. Select ‘Confirm’ to make the changes.

What an active pensioner can do

Active pensioners are members that have claimed all or part of their pension and returned to work and continue to contribute into the pension.

These members can only view the active member portal. They'll not be able to do any actions a pensioner can.
