The following funding may be available to you from the first year of your course.

Placement Travel Allowance (PTA)

PTA is a non-income assessed allowance to support you with your placement costs.

A full-time student will receive £862.50 per academic year.

A part time student will receive a pro rata amount, based on the length of your course.

If you're eligible for the Basic Bursary, your PTA entitlement is already included within the Basic Bursary amount. You will not get an additional award.

If you’re not allocated a capped bursary place, PTA will be the only funding you receive.

Additional Social Work bursary funding for capped places

These allowances are only available if you've been allocated a capped bursary place.

Tuition fees

Tuition fees are a non-income assessed contribution.

Full-time students receive up to £4,052 per academic year.

Part-time students receive up to £2,026 per academic year.

If your university or college charges a higher amount for tuition fees, you must pay the difference.

Basic grant

If you're eligible for the Basic Bursary, your PTA entitlement is already included within the Basic Bursary amount. You will not get an additional award.

The rates cover a 52 week period during the academic year.

Full time students receive £3,362.50 if you attend a university outside of London.

Full-time students receive £3,762.50 if you attend a university inside of London.

Part time students receive a pro rata amount, based on the length of your course.

Maintenance grant

The maintenance grant is an additional award to support you with your general living expenses. This award is income assessed.

The rates cover a 52 week period during the academic year.

Full time students receive up to £2,721 if you attend a university outside of London.

Full time students receive up to £4,201 if you attend a university inside of London.

Part time students receive a pro rata amount, based on the length of your course.

Childcare Allowance (CCA)

CCA is an income assessed allowance to support you with any childcare costs you pay to a registered childcare provider.
