Most non-European Economic Area (EEA) nationals applying for temporary leave to remain in the UK must pay an IHS.
This surcharge allows you access to receive state-provided medical care in the UK.
The IHS is not an exemption from paying for health costs.
NHS services which are not free such as dental treatment are still chargeable unless you have a separate entitlement to help with health costs.
On 21 May 2020, the Prime Minister (PM) announced plans to exempt health and care workers from the IHS. The announcement meant that anyone who works in health and social care and has paid the IHS may be eligible for a reimbursement.
