There are 12 Care Packages for NHS dental treatment in WalesMore than one Care Package can be used to create a course of treatment. 

You may need to pay more than one charge. 

This includes: 

  • a charge for each Care Package up to a maximum of £384 
  • a charge for each laboratory fee needed as part of your treatment

Care Packages

New Patient Assessment 

The current charge is £27.21. 

Treatment covers: 

  • a global health and clinical assessment and intraoral radiography 
  • prevention advice, included in the Delivering Better Oral Health (DBOH) guidance  
  • referral to appropriate services  
  • topical fluoride application, high concentration fluoride toothpaste prescription and fissure sealants

Simple restorative Care Package (SRCP) 

The current charge is £36.03. 

Treatment on 1 to 4 teeth covers: 

  • extractions 
  • permanent fillings 
  • temporary or intermediate crowns 
  • hall crowns

Extensive restorative Care Package (ERCP) 

The current charge is £68.75. 

Treatment on 5 to 8 teeth covers: 

  • extractions 
  • permanent fillings 
  • temporary or intermediate crowns 
  • hall crowns

Periodontal Care Package 

The current charge is £48.53. 

This is for a single course of periodontal treatment.

Denture Care Package 

The current charge is £86.40. 

This includes all work involved in the construction and fitting of: 

  • upper acrylic denture 
  • lower acrylic denture 
  • upper metal denture 
  • lower metal denture 
  • any digital impression techniques used are also included in the care package

Easing and adjustments of an immediate dentures are provided, free of charge for 2 months after fitting. This includes relining and rebasing.

Stabilisation Care Package 

The current charge is £75.00. 

This is for patients with unstable dental disease with 7 or more carious teeth, and at least 2 of the them have caries extending close to or into the nerve of the tooth. 

This includes: 

  • extractions 
  • prevention advice 
  • glass Ionomer cement restorations 
  • pulp extirpation 
  • removal of plaques retentive factors

Anterior root canal package 

The current charge is £91.18. 

Root Canal Treatment (RCT) on up to 2 teeth non-molars positioned 1 to 3. Includes any permanent restorations.

The current charge is £182.72.

RCT on up to 2 teeth molar and pre-molar root positioned 4 upwards

Permanent crown, bridge, inlay, onlay and veneer Care Package for permanent teeth 

The current charge is £140.44. 

This includes: 

  • up to 3 units for a bridge 
  • up to 2 permanent crowns, inlays, onlays and veneers 
  • study models 
  • diagnostic wax ups 
  • face bow recordings 
  • posts and cores 
  • any digital impression techniques 
  • all luting cements and techniques

Recall examination 

The current charge is £25.00. 

The recall visit includes: 

  • a full oral health assessment 
  • a basic periodontal examination 
  • radiographs 
  • soft tissue 
  • fluoride application 
  • removal of plaque retentive factors

Miscellaneous Care Package 

The current charge is £25.00. 

For treatment and interventions for patients that fall outside of a current care package or warranty period 

This includes: 

  • denture repairaddition or re-line  
  • denture ease - up to 2 each financial year for dentures older than 2 years or made by another contract holder and for immediate dentures fitted more than 2 months ago 
  • study models one claim each year 
  • bite raising appliance includes study models - covered for 2 years 
  • biopsy per site includeing sutures, pathology report and follow up 
  • repair or recement of a crown, bridge or veneer covered for one year  
  • removal of sutures for procedures external to the practice 
  • pericoronitis - one miscellaneous care package can be claimed relating to the same tooth each episode regardless of the number of visits  
  • Acute Necrotising Ulcerative Gingivitis (ANUG) one miscellaneous care package can be claimed relating to the same tooth each episode regardless of the number of visits  
  • orthodontic urgent issues when the patient’s own orthodontist is unavailable- one miscellaneous care package can be claimed within a 3-month time period 
  • dry socket - one miscellaneous care package can be claimed regardless of the number of visits for the same site  
  • splinting of mobile teeth for up to 4 teeth for each episode - covered for 12 months 
  • trauma related injury includes all necessary review appointments, pulp sensibility tests, radiographs and all other necessary tests

Urgent Care Package

The current charge is £37.50. 

Urgent appointments will include an oral health assessment and onward referral where appropriate.  

Urgent care should provide relief from pain and prevent significant deterioration of a particular problem. This care should provide a long-term solutionwhere possible  

Treatment provided for new urgent patients is covered for 12 months from the initial appointment.  

The urgent care package fee is only paid for patients who are not historic patients of the practice.
