Your specialist equipment payment may have included funding to pay for insurance or extended warranty costs from owning the equipment.
Your Needs Assessment Report (NAR) usually indicates an amount for this purpose.
If this was not paid to you as part of your specialist equipment package but was recommended in your NAR, send us original receipts showing the payments made. Reimbursement will be made within 20 working days of receipt.
If you did not purchase insurance or extend warranty on your specialist equipment, any repair or replacement must be funded by yourself.

Repairs and replacements are considered on a case-by-case basis.
They’ll email dsa@nhsbsa.nhs.uk with quotes to repair and replace.
Disabled Student Allowance (DSA) will cover costs up to the value of a standard replacement. If you’ve already paid the £200 contribution, you will not need to pay it again if your equipment needs replacing.
If the cost of repairing your broken equipment is more than the cost of a replacement, you can:
- accept the standard replacement funded by DSA
- pay the excess repair cost
DSA does not cover repair costs for applied upgrades beyond those detailed in your NAR.
