You can apply for healthcare cover if you plan to give birth in an EU country, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein and you're ordinarily resident in the UK.

If you live abroad and your healthcare is paid for by the UK, you may be entitled to help with the cost giving birth in another EU country, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein.

If you plan to give birth in the UK and you're going for a short trip abroad, take a valid UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) or European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) with you. The card will provide cover for all medical treatment linked to the birth if the baby is born unexpectedly.

Applications must be received before the delivery date.
