Your parent’s and partner if applicable, must declare their income and expenses for the last full UK tax year ending before the start of your academic year on your NHS Bursary application.
This includes if they live abroad.
We’ll use the online XE currency converter to convert any foreign currency.
If we need further details from your parents or partner, we’ll contact them directly.
Parents are divorced or legally separated
If your parents do not live together because they're divorced or legally separated, you must provide the income details of the parent you ordinarily reside with.
If your parents are divorced, you must include the original:
- Decree Nisi
- Decree Absolute
- Final Order
If your parents are legally separated, you must provide evidence to support this such as a:
- revised tax credit letter
- revised council tax bill
- letter on headed paper from a professional person
If you're using a letter from a professional person as evidence, the letter must include their:
- name
- address
- telephone number
- email address
If your parents are divorced or legally separated but still live together, you must declare both parent's income.
If a parent chooses to move out of the property, you must submit a Change of Circumstances form to be reassessed using the income details of the parent you would ordinarily reside with.
If you have a stepparent, they do not need to disclose their income in any situation unless they've legally adopted you.
Parents or partner live separately
If your parents or you and your partner have not separated or divorced but live apart due to other commitments such as working in a different area, both individuals must complete an income assessment.
Parents or partner are in prison
You must include your parents or partner on your application.
Complete their personal details and confirm they’re in prison.
You must declare £0 for their income and expenses.
We must see court papers or other documentation showing the dates of the custodial sentence as evidence they're currently in prison to assess your application.
If they leave prison during the academic year, your bursary must be reassessed from the date they leave to the end of the academic year.
