Maintenance is a payment received from another person as agreed:
- by a court order
- by the Child Support Agency
- through a voluntary agreement
Maintenance does not relate to income from Student Finance England (SFE) or any costs associated with your rent and cost of living.
If you're receiving maintenance payments for yourself, you must declare this as income in the 'Student's Income and Expenses' section of your application.
If you're receiving maintenance payments for your child, these do not need to be declared on your application as they're not used in the assessment.
If your spouse, partner, or civil partner, receives maintenance payments for themselves or a child, this must be declared as their own income if you're claiming Dependants Allowance.
