Once we’ve received your AW33E or AW240 consideration of entitlement application form, it’s forwarded to Medigold our independent medical advisors.

Medigold will consider your application and tell you, your employer if applicable, and us of their decision. There is no timescale for this.

If your application is successful, you’ll be awarded a Tier 1 or Tier 2 ill health pension.

If you’re accepted for a Tier 1 ill health pension but think you should have been awarded Tier 2, you can claim your Tier 1 ill health pension while you’re appealing this decision.

If you apply using an AW33E form and are successful, your employer will send you a AW8 retirement benefits claim form.

If you apply using an AW240 form and are successful, you must download a AW8P deferred benefits claim form. If you’re unable to download the AW8P form, contact us to request the form.

If you apply through an AW240 form and your previous employer agrees you left NHS employment on the grounds of ill health, we’ll assess your application as an active member. This is confirmed on the acceptance letter. You must complete an AW8 with your previous employer.

If you completed an AW33E and AW240 form and your application is successful, you must complete the AW8 or AW8P form to claim your ill health benefits. You also must complete an AW8P form for any deferred membership not linked to the 2015 Scheme.

Your application paperwork will be returned to us and scanned to your record within 10 working days of receipt.

If you need a copy of your application, contact us.
