If Medigold are satisfied you meet the criteria for Tier 1, but the nature of your condition makes it difficult to assess your long-term ability to undertake work, you may be invited to request a reassessment within 3 years.

If your condition deteriorates or further supporting medical evidence becomes available within 3 years of your Tier 1 application, you can ask us to review your award to see if you qualify for Tier 2.

You can only request a reassessment if your original decision letter invited you to do so.

We’ll not reassess your Tier 1 award unless you request it.

You can apply for a reassessment by writing to us.

You must confirm the reasons why you believe you’re now entitled to Tier 2 and submit any new medical evidence related to your medical conditions. You cannot ask for a review of your Tier 1 award if you have no new medical evidence.

No subsequent conditions or deterioration related to age will be considered.

You may have less than 3 years to apply for a reassessment if:

  • you’re going to reach your Normal Pension Age (NPA)
  • you return to NHS employment

The reassessment must be completed before your NPA and within 12 months of re-employment.

If you’re awarded Tier 2 from a reassessment request, the Tier 2 benefits become payable from the Tier 2 decision is reached. They’re not backdated to the date the Tier 1 benefits were paid.
