Change of name

If you've changed your name, you must complete a Change of Circumstances application in your MyFunding account.

You must also upload a covering letter explaining the change and an original of either your:

  • marriage certificate
  • civil partnership certificate
  • Decree Nisi or Absolute
  • Deed Poll certificate

You must update your details in your MyFunding account using the 'Edit' button on the 'Personal Details' section of your account.

You must make sure your university is aware of your current name. This is because your university may need to send us details about your course. We must hold the same name as they do so we can match this information to your record.

If you need a copy of a birth, death, marriage or civil partnership certificate that's been registered in England or Wales, you can order a copy from the General Register Office by HM Passport Office.

If you need a copy of a Decree Absolute, Final Order or dissolution of a civil partnership, you can contact the court in which the divorce, dissolution or annulment was granted.

The GOV.UK website has a search facility which can be used to find the contact details of the court.

Change in relationship status

If you've had a change in your relationship status, you may need to complete another application depending on your course and circumstances.

Undergraduate course students

You do not need to complete another application to tell us about any changes to your relationship status.

Any bursary awarded to you is not assessed based on anyone else in your household.

Postgraduate course students

You do not need to tell us about any changes to your relationship status if you do not wish to be considered for any of the additional income assessed elements and have only been awarded either:

You must submit a Change of Circumstances in your MyFunding account if you have a change in your living arrangements that may affect your award.

We’ll request evidence to support this change which must be uploaded to your MyFunding account.

We'll reassess your entitlement within 20 working days and notify you of the outcome by email.

We'll contact you if we need any further information or evidence from you.
